This new $210 million fixed bridge stretches over three-quarters of a mile, replacing a 1948 lift span. The Schuyler Heim Bridge connects the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles and conforms to high seismic standards. The bridge is supported on ten, and 12-foot diameter drilled shafts, with a length of 155 to 200 feet. Value Engineering Design for Post Grouted Drilled Shafts in main spans with input by the experts at AFT reduced shaft lengths by 35 to 50 feet, saving significant time and expense.

AFT served as the expert consultant through the design process and developed the Technical Special Provisions, Procedures, Submittals, Shop Drawings, and Post Grouting Criteria required for the post grouting process. AFT furnished and installed strain instrumentation as well as all grouting equipment with our proprietary GroutDAQ™ system, including the largest grout plate in US history!
