The Goethals Bridge Replacement is a $1.5 billion Public-Private Partnership (P3) between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. NYNJ Link Developer, LLC, was the firm to replace the original 1928 steel truss bridge. The striking design of the replacement bridge follows in the same theme as other proposed bridge replacements between New York and New Jersey.
AFT performed lateral STATNAMIC™ load tests up to 1,200 tons in four separate cycles on two test shafts, one 6 feet in diameter and one 9 feet in diameter. Instrumentation included up to 8 levels of embedded strain gages per shaft and AFT’s proprietary Downhole Lateral Motion Sensor (DLMS). Lateral load test results were analyzed and compared to analytical models of the shafts’ behavior. AFT also supplied two AFT-SID™ systems to the construction team that is used for inspection of all production shafts.
